The current practice of hydraulic engineering construction applies four methods for damping extra energy excess water discharge: throwing out the stream into tailwater; using twisting in passageway, a water-well, and on multistage drop; vertical shaft. cheapest method is by jet downstream reservoir. main disadvantages limiting use this include need appropriate topographic conditions tailrace basin, strong rocks river channel, possibility at large distance from hydropower project, which restricts method. Extra with flow passageway requires complex structures, providing rotational movement forming deep vacuum outlet conduit. breaking amount air, causes dynamic modes, its removal complicates design structures. most reliable way stilling well. But water-sucking wells are low efficiency accompanied an uneven distribution specific discharges inlet section sharp increase cost high-pressure hydroelectric installations. cross-fall drastically facilitates operation well serves as supplement. Energy shaft easy to use. Still, it results trapping air all operating has limited practical construction. However, except possible supply shown high combination diversion pipe reverse slope.
